Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a middle school in a large city. We are a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast, lunch, and supper. My students are amazing and eager learners, and I want to help them become successful, happy adults.
Most of my students are from the local area.
They have chosen to follow a marine science and environmental studies pathway for their middle school years. English is a second language for many of them. Their parents encourage them to learn as much as they can while supporting the teachers any way they can.
My Project
I work with some amazing students. Unfortunately, some of them do not have the option to bring a snack to school.
When they are hungry, they do not learn as well.
The crackers, chips, beef jerky, bars, and almonds will help when they need a little something to hold them until the next meal. They sometimes save their snacks until they get home. The Cup of Noodles and cups of macaroni and cheese are easy to take home and cook. This project includes snacks that are sugar free, gluten free, nut free and vegan... something for every student so that no one is excluded.
