Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a 2nd-grade teacher at an urban multi-racial school. We have a 92% population of students who are new to speaking English (ELL). The walkie-talkies are needed to keep our students safe and sound inside and outside of the building. We want to have them so we can communicate when there is an emergency or lockdown. We can also use them to help the ELL students or parents with immediate needs instead of having to physically locate an interpreter each time a need arises. We will also use these walkie-talkies during recess to communicate with the inside of the building and during our daily dismissals. We can quickly communicate to others if a student is in the wrong location or if a parent is looking for them. They will also be used during dismissal to ensure our students all make it home safely. All students will feel more at ease and safer if the staff is aware of what is transpiring in a timely manner.
