Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

School is a safe place where we can provide consistency and support! However, many of our students do not have the same consistency and support in their home environment. I work at a Title I school who serves 300+ students who come from various backgrounds. Many of our students' families do not have access to mental health services and I am trying to bridge the gap and advocate for our student's social and emotional health!

As a first year school counselor, I am working towards building an inviting counseling experience where students know they are valued and supported!

I want to be able to support our students and provide them with an engaged hands-on learning environment where they can learn how to handle emotions, deal with peers, cope, and process big emotions in their day to day lives. Please help me provide my students with a classroom which encourages emotional well-being! Your donations will go towards equipping a classroom with hands-on soothing materials and comfortable seating to help students de-escalate and practice mindfulness.

My Project

With the amazing support of our DonorsChoose community, I have slowly started building a welcoming classroom that has a variety of engaging hands-on activities, however, as wonderful as our classroom transformation has been we are in need of flexible seating (both students and myself)!

A comfortable work area space can help us feel our best; it is important for me to be able to provide my students with a classroom environment conductive to learning and would like to increase the chances of movement when working independently.

My students have ample of opportunities throughout our sessions to move around our classroom but there are instances when students work independently on a task. I would love for my students to be able to continue with the same energy and comfort when in their seats! I am hoping I can provide my students with flexible seating which will keep both their mind and body engaged.

Additionally, as we continue our hybrid learning model and I am teaching both in-person and virtually, I am looking to spruce up my work area! I remember at the beginning of the previous school year, I would take any chance I got to sit at my desk to rest.... now, I take every opportunity to leave my desk! As we trek on with virtual learning, I would like to enhance my office ergonomics and am hoping to give my work space a makeover and save my neck!
