Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. They bring a diverse set of experiences and knowledge to our classroom. As students in these heterogeneous groupings come together, they show that no one of them is smarter than all of them together.
Although the transition from elementary to middle school is challenging, these 6th grade students are open and excited to learn how to become successful middle schoolers and lifelong learners.
Students desperately want to succeed and prepare themselves for their futures. They ask important and insightful questions and push themselves to move beyond the standard curriculum.
My Project
It is nearing the end of the school year and we have just finished state testing, but this does not mean that we are done learning.
If this project is funded, my students will be able to move through math and science more efficiently.
During science labs, students need access to a variety of materials (beakers, solutions, etc.) and these organizers would help them access those materials in our small classroom.
Students have a lot to learn, teach each other, and accomplish before they complete sixth grade. They will continue to discuss math, use math manipulatives, conduct science experiments and investigations, ask questions, and problem solve.
If this project is funded, students will have their math and science materials available in an organized way and we can finish off the school year continuing to act as young mathematicians and scientists.
