My students need supplies for training for our upcoming track and field season. We are in need of practice discus and javelins and other equipment in order to compete.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Sports open doors for many opportunities. Practicing and competing teaches valuable life lessons as well as increases self esteem in the adolescent years. Our runners had fun learning about the sport but had set backs due to lack of training equipment available. Help these runners train like Olympians!

My student athletes are boys and girls in grades 6-8.

They are incredibly hard working athletes who strive for success. We attend an inner city public charter school in Baltimore, MD where we compete against other public and private schools in the MD/DC/PA area. We train on local trails, in our parking lot, in the stairways, and in our cafeteria! If there is a will we will find a way. With minimal equipment and limited access to a track we were still able to send one of our 7th grade athletes to the Junior Olympics! Just imagine what these students are capable of with the right equipment! Help my runners become the elite athletes I know they are!

My Project

With this equipment my student athletes will be able to train to win! Starting blocks will allow our sprinters to compete with the best and decrease their sprinting times. A discuss and javelin will allow our throwers to get practice throwing the actual implement prior to the meet, rather than using a football or other supplemental equipment. Weights allow the athletes to begin a strength training program during the off season. With this training equipment we will be able to offer a track club that gives the student athletes the chance they deserve!

This track program is an important part of our school and community.Research show that teens in inner-city neighborhoods who play organized team sports have a higher sense of self worth and better social skills than their peers who don't play sports.Research also shows that females who participate in sports are 92% less likely to become involved in drugs and 80% less likely to have an unwanted pregnancy.
