Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Long Distance running with the goal to complete the L.A. Marathon is the goal of all my students. All of my student-athletes participate in the Free Federal School Lunch Program. For some, they are first-generation college-bound students. Many are considered low-income and lack resources for proper nutrition and equipment for running.
My athletes are special because they plan to run the Los Angeles marathon and for many, this will be their very first marathon.
My students show up to practice four times a week: weekdays from 3:20-5pm and on weekends they show up to school at 6:20am. My students are resilient and aside from planning to run long distances (LA Marathon), they know a high school diploma is a start to achieving success. Many plans to enroll in college and my distance running program will help provide the tools needed for success in life - handwork, discipline, and perseverance.
My Project
My team is in need of proper nutrition so they can complete the Los Angeles Marathon in 2021. Many have never run 26.2 miles in their life. I hope to provide my students with the skills and training to accomplish the L.A. Marathon. In order to achieve this goal, I would need your support to provide some energy gels and protein snacks to fuel the energy so my kids can finish their long runs. My students will begin running 6-10 miles per week. In about 2 months they will run about 10-20 miles per week. On weekends we will run 6-10 miles. This is where your help will come in.
My students will need the energy gels to support them in their long-distance runs.
The sodium in the energy gels will prevent cramping and the protein bars will help build muscle mass. With the proper training and nutrition, I know my kids will be prepared both mentally and physically to endure the mileage needed to complete this endeavor!
