My Students

Students in my classroom come from low-income families in Chinatown, Manhattan of NY. My classroom is an ICT class with a mix of English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities. My students all have different learning needs and academic levels that it becomes difficult when it comes to planning activities for them to work individually on or collaborate in small groups.

Elementary school years are very important where a strong foundation should be implemented for these students.

My students' small accomplishments mean the world to them; it helps them boost their self-confidence and self-esteem.

My Project

With these books, I can learn how to correlate what I'm currently teaching in TC reading and writing units along with their running record assessment tool. These books align with their own set of running records.

A running record is a way to assess a student's reading progress by systematically evaluating a student's oral reading and identifying error patterns.

These on-going assessments will help me distinguish students' strengths and weaknesses so I can plan lessons specifically for small group instruction. The running records also help track student movement and insure that students are matched to just right books because this is crucial to the success of any reading workshop, in which we are currently implementing.
