Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students I am so lucky to teach are part of the South Seattle community, a diverse group comprised of mostly students of color, but also diverse in their representation of the LGBTQ+ communities, disabilities, gender identities, and of course: their dreams, goals, and aspirations. What is unique about this group is their special positionality they have at 12 and 13. Just starting to be critical thinkers, questioners of authority, and always providing curious, bold, and honest remarks. There is never a dull moment when they enter the classroom.

The classroom then, should match their vibrant & lively energy.

That's why in addition to books, which are pretty standard for any ELA classroom, I'm asking for things to cultivate the classroom environment they deserve. A rug for us gathering to learn, critique, debate, discuss, and hear stories. Sensory fidgets to aid students in focusing for long periods of time. Games for our fun times, our celebrations and breaks! Of course, books for us to get engaged into the windows and mirrors of stories that help teach us new perspective or reflect and affirm our experiences.

I'm humbly asking for a donation to help my students get the safe, welcoming, and caring classroom they so very well deserve. Thank you!
