My students need a comfortable place to relax and read. My students need books on tape to listen to that are above their reading levels.

My Students

Kindergarten is a room full of movement. In my classroom we are constantly moving and working in different places around the room. Students spend time reading independently, working in a small group on the rug, writing at their desks and building numbers with manipulatives.

My students are 24 energetic learners!

They are excited to learn and love to read. My school is big! We have 6/7 classes per grade level and there is a lot going on. Each classroom is different and teachers have their own spin on learning. We are a very collaborative school and support the community.

My Project

In this project, I am requesting to buy comfortable chairs, similar to bean bag chairs, and books on tape. With these materials I will be able to reward my students with the gift of reading but in a special place (a comfy chair!). They will be able to reach for rewards that are not electronics or sweets but to read in a cool location. I think this will be motivating to them. My students will also be able to listen to a variety of texts on tape independently when the texts are too difficult for a 6 year old to read. They will hear these classic children's books and be able to read and respond to them in their journals.

This project will help change my classroom because it will make it more comforting and inviting.

It will help the students engage in reading. It is always so exciting when you see a child get so in to a book that they don't even realize what is going on around them. I am hoping that I can create that environment with some new seating and books.
