My Project

This proposal is submitted to request approval for the installation of a Gaga Ball pit at the middle school to enhance student engagement, physical activity, and positive social interaction during recess and other unstructured times. Gaga Ball is a fast-paced, inclusive game that is highly popular among middle school–aged students and can be safely played by students with a wide range of abilities.

Middle school students benefit greatly from opportunities for structured physical movement throughout the school day.

During unstructured times, some students struggle with limited activity options, peer conflict, emotional regulation, and transitioning back to the classroom environment. Providing an engaging and predictable activity such as Gaga Ball offers students a constructive outlet for excess energy while supporting improved focus and behavior following recess.

The addition of a Gaga Ball pit would promote physical wellness by encouraging daily movement, coordination, and active play. It would also support social-emotional development by fostering cooperation, turn-taking, sportsmanship, and positive peer relationships. Because Gaga Ball is inclusive and does not rely on advanced athletic skill, it allows students who may not typically participate in traditional sports to feel successful and included.

From a behavioral standpoint, structured recess activities have been shown to reduce conflicts and disciplinary incidents. A Gaga Ball pit provides clear rules and expectations, helping students navigate unstructured time more successfully while promoting positive decision-making and self-regulation skills.

In conclusion, the installation of a Gaga Ball pit would be a valuable investment in student wellness, school climate, and overall recess structure. By promoting physical activity, social connection, and emotional regulation, this project would positively impact students’ daily school experience and support a safe, engaging, and inclusive recess environment.
