My Project

Have you ever gone to the symphony and thought to yourself, "Oh, how I would love to play the violin!" These amazing 4th, 5th and 6th graders are doing just that! String instruments are expensive to rent, so the constant expense of rosin is often just a little too much.

My students are energetic 4th, 5th and 6th graders who LOVE music.

They want to sing, dance, and play instruments. If they could do all three at the same time, they would still look for more ways to create music.

The school population is 2nd through 6th grade. The ensembles offered are Band, Chorus, and Strings, but Band and Strings starts in 4th grade. Since Kindergarten, they have learned how to listen to music, and now they want to make their own. One of the most popular instruments in our school is violin and with that comes the need for rosin!

Rosin is one of the most consumable items in instrumental music. Violinists must rosin their bows every time they play the instrument, whether in a lesson, during practice, or in performance.

As the school year marches on, the rosin will disappear and become hard to come by, simply because it is being used constantly. It will become necessary to break up the rosin into pieces so that each student has some to use at home.

Even then, what little there is will be used quickly. If each student had their own rosin, they would be able to practice correct rosin technique both in school and at home.
