This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in the Hunts Point area of the South Bronx. For the past 4 years, I have been placed in an ICT classroom to teach students with disabilities who are educated with age-appropriate peers in the general education classroom. Interactive educational methods help to realize those tasks and provide cooperative learning among teachers and students. Many students lack the opportunity to have hands-on experiences in the sciences. As an educator, I am focused on enriching my students learning in this deficit area. A

My Project

Giving low-income students access to Seed Germinator Kits will enhance their learning in science and prepare them for the 4th-grade science test that entails scientific observations. Students will be able to closely observe, record, and actively engage in inquiry-based learning. A student from the South Bronx area have limited access and schools have limited funding for students to access these experiences and hands-on learning. The school has piloted the FOSS program, but unfortunately, it does not come with the Seed Germinator Kits. Students have made improvements from this program with only 6 months use last year. We can only imagine the growth they will make this year with the program plus additional resources.
