Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Throughout the semester, the students at WHS are supported by various staff members. From administrators to teachers to Team Leaders, these staff members strive to help students grow academically and personally. At WHS, grade-level Team Leaders support their respective classes in grades, SSL hours, attendance, and other life skills such as time management. Each grade level is tracked by one of these Team Leaders, who work closely with administration and counselors to create "focus groups" to monitor. These students are typically not on track to graduate due to grades, a lack of SSL hours, or attendance concerns. Team Leaders are responsible for finding these students during the school day and meeting with them about these action items. Oftentimes, Team Leaders do not have enough classroom space to meet with these students and resort to meeting with them in the hallway.
To combat this lack of space, rolling desks will create a functional space that allows our Team Leaders to set-up workstations to have meetings with struggling students.
Students will use these rolling desks to hold things like Chromebooks, grade sheets, and other tools to facilitate their meeting with the Team Leader.
Instead of spending valuable time searching for an empty room or ledge in the hallway, Team Leaders will utilize rolling desks to display grades, SSL opportunities, and support systems such as credit recovery by setting up students Chromebooks on the rolling desk. Rolling desks will also allow our Team Leaders to meet more efficiently and quickly with students in various classrooms. Currently, the Team Leaders share rolling desks with the administration team.
By allowing students access to these desks, they will be able to more accurately see their grades and other areas that are holding them back from graduation during intervention meetings!
