Many students don't have even a simple calculator available to use, and with new regulations prohibiting cell phone use, even \"regular\" non-testing class work had been difficult without a dedicated classroom set of calculators. \r\n\r\nNot only have my students benefited, but other teachers who use my classroom have found the calculators extremely beneficial as well. \r\n\r\nWe haven't had much opportunity to use the modeling kits yet, though some students who are also in chemistry alongside my classes have found them useful during study time or lunch to visualize molecular geometry. I know we'll be using them more in the coming months. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your incalculable generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1758585648735,"projectUrl":"project/molecular-modeling-and-calculations/9745137/","projectTitle":"Molecular Modeling and Calculations","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kraus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1863084_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1451953494333","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kkraus"},{"teacherId":1863084,"projectId":9594754,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom! The new magnifying lenses and dissection microscopes haven't seen a lot of use yet, but as we move into new subjects in forensic science and biology, we'll be using them more and more. \r\n\r\nI especially loved hearing students' comments when they first realized how the new magnifying lenses could be switched between a hand-held lens and a hands-free lens. It was like a game-changer for them, especially when it comes to looking at things like fingerprints or insects. \r\n\r\nThe magnifying lenses especially will be very useful in the coming units for forensics, as we look at smaller and smaller types of evidence. Biology will certainly be using them later in the year with our stream study and other outdoors activities in the spring. \r\n\r\nWe all really appreciate the support and I, personally, am always speechless by how generous others can be with regards to students they have never met. In my 10 years of teaching, this was the first year I never had to tell a student to \"put your phone away.\" While a bit unsettling at first, students quickly got used to the routine of putting their phone in our locker. \r\n\r\nNot only has this helped with classroom management, but your funds have helped my students create a positive, communicative classroom environment. In a generation that is glued to devices, I found that by having this phone box, students began communicating more and more with me and their classmates! Grades also improved with this new system. The distraction of social media was gone and students had an incentive to get their work done. \r\n\r\nThe notebooks have also helped my classroom tremendously in terms of organization and ease of transitions! Student engagement and achievement was improved through this positive reward system. \r\n\r\nEach day, students who normally would hesitate to participate or engage, surprised me with their eagerness to \"earn tickets.\" This system not only improved their participation but also created a calmer, more joyful classroom environment. Students felt valued and appreciated by their contributions to the classroom as a whole.\r\n\r\nOften times, high school students get overlooked in the area of \"prizes\" or rewards due to their age. The bean bags (and refill) were instantly appreciated by everyone -- the reading nook is a popular place during lunch and classroom downtime (especially for students with sensory overload), and the bean bags themselves were part of a wonderful competition in the last class of the day, where students strove to be first to class so they could sit in one during class time! \r\n\r\nThere was even a comment at the end of an evacuation drill by another teacher, who was shocked my students were so psyched to get back to class. \"How do you do it?\" she asked me. \"Bean bag chairs,\" was my response. \r\n\r\nAnd the magnifiers. These really elevated how my forensics students could examine bullets and casings, as well as fingerprints. This past year's forensics students were grateful for the addition of these to our stockroom, and future years of students will benefit as well! They were also handy in biology when doing our stream studies and biodiversity activities. \r\n\r\nIn short, you are amazing for your help, because you help my classroom continue to improve and be more and more amazing each year.","fullyFundedDate":1743469344786,"projectUrl":"project/bean-bags-and-magnifiers-for-my-students/9200385/","projectTitle":"Bean Bags and Magnifiers for My Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kraus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1863084_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1451953494333","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kkraus"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64768","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2794,"numTeachers":120,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":19,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":57,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"23.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.5,"schoolId":64768,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Wheaton Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Wheaton Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/montgomery-county-public-schools/wheaton-senior-high-school/64768"}
