Rolling Along into the New Year

Help me give my students a charging station on wheels to quickly access their Chromebooks and keep their Chromebooks charged with the cords tangle free to promote more efficient learning!

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Silge's classroom raised $323

My Students

My class consists of diverse students with multiple special needs. I have students with high functioning autism, non-verbal and low functioning autism, intellectual disabilities, and students with severe and profound disabilities that need full assistance.

My special needs students are now kindergarten to 5th graders and their abilities range from 18 months to 4th grade skills.

This presents the challenge to completely differentiate the curriculum and provide for many activities and learning centers within the room to help students reach their potential.

I have paraprofessionals who assist the wheelchair students with 1:1 activities and attend the general education specials classes (music, library, PE, technology, and guidance) with them to give them the opportunities to be with their non-disabled peers. All students also receive support from the occupational and physical therapists as needed as well as the speech teacher. We teach all the academic subjects within our classroom in small group and 1:1 settings to help the students reach their individual reading and math goals.

My Project

All of our students are issued Chromebooks to use at school and also at home during remote learning. We keep them in the classroom during the day to charge them up and use them for technology education. However, we have very limited outlets in the classroom so it is difficult to keep all the laptops plugged in. Additionally, the children find it difficult to retrieve their laptops quickly because the cords become entangled. We need a charging station!

A charging station would allow us to keep all the laptops plugged in and organized to help us quickly grab a Chromebook to get lessons started.

A rolling laptop station would allow us to push the laptops to the technology center so the younger students do not drop and break them or become frustrated when the cords are tangled. Quick and easy access to the fully charged Chromebooks in one central location would allow us to quickly get started on our lessons instead of waiting for students to find their device, untangle it, and get back to the center. Plus, we can quickly grab each special needs student's assigned laptop and get it packed up to go home to continue their learning online there!
