Our classroom is in need of a working iPad to enhance the learning of all of our students. An iPad would allow the teacher to program individualized lessons for students to complete at their own pace and at a level that would improve their learning. Students with autism are visual learners and learn best when lessons are presented with pictures and diagrams and our severe/profound students need the opportunity to complete lessons that use a touchscreen which is available on the iPad,. Because of the diverse nature and learning levels in our classroom, most instruction is done in small groups or individual learning centers.
An iPad would allow us to present individualized lessons to our severe/profound students without distracting the other students who are working in small groups and to also provide educational lessons in game format to enrich the math and vocabulary skills for all our students. We can not use the overhead projector to do this as it is too distracting for the other students who are working with the instructor in small groups for reading, spelling, writing, and math.
Currently we do not have a working iPad in our classroom and funds are not available with the special education co-op for this item. All our students would benefit from the iPad as they could use it to work independently and improve their digital literacy skills as well as make progress towards their learning goals.
