Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We live in the American Southwest, birthplace of rodeo as a spectator sport. Every year our public schools have a 4-day weekend, rodeo vacation, for the celebration of all things rodeo. There is a parade and of course, there are lots of cowboys and cowgirls, local and international, who participate in the rodeo events. Learning about this unique facet of our community culture enriches our students in many ways.

Dramatic play, dressing up as cowhands, riding our hobby horses is an integral part of our preschool Rodeo unit.

The kids love trying on big cowboy boots and vests, wearing hats, swinging imaginary ropes and pretending to be in the rodeo. In our diverse classroom of 3- to 5-year-olds of varying abilities and disabilities, everyone can dress up and use a stick horse, even if they are in a wheelchair.

Unfortunately, our old hobby horses were so loved that, last year, they bit the dust. We're asking for new ones and a few new hats as well.
