Help me give my students journals and books to develop kindness and compassion and rocks and paint to create compassion rocks to leave around the school for other students to find to build their self esteem!
My young students are learning about compassion, kindness and emotional awareness. We do something called "zones" regularly because these are skills that are learned and modeled.
I want to teach my tiny students ways to see the world through the eyes of another person.
The books will be a great way to start this lifelong lesson.
Next, my students will use the journals to share their feelings. We will come together as a group to take turns sharing our thoughts and feelings and find ways to help each child alleviate their suffering, and finding comfort knowing they are not alone. I will measure the success in my students understating of compassion by listening to how my students treat each other during this time of sharing by showing compassion, kindness and love.
Lastly, I would love to bring art into this lesson. Each student will paint river rocks with words of compassion, kindness and love. We will hide these all throughout the campus for other students to find. Not only will this fill the cup of my 3rd graders, but it will fill the cup of many other students, from pre-k to 5th grade. Maybe even a few teachers will find some too!
