My Students
I believe I have some of the most incredible students in this country. My school is in an area of high poverty. We have students from many different countries and backgrounds. They are smart, capable, caring, and learning more about who they want to become all the time. They are also passionate learners. In my classroom, we strive to create a family where each person feels safe, loved, and appreciated.
One thing my students lack in their homes is ample technology.
My desire is to bring more technology to our classroom to prepare them to be well-rounded contributors in their future careers.
My Project
The value in STEM education is the exposure to different career options that students get. With these Bloxels kits, students experience a new side of STEM - the gaming world. With Bloxels, students are not just "playing video games." They become the creators! Students use the Bloxels boards to build their characters, scenery, and game levels. Students can then use their iPads to take pictures of other students' characters and levels. They can even link their levels together!
This technology allows students to not only become game creators (a potential career), but math and literacy skills can also be incorporated; that is what makes this technology so amazing.
Students explore the use of patterns when creating their games and characters. The white tiles in this kit can incorporate text into the game level. This means that students can write a story that a player will read throughout playing the game! Students will feel like they are just playing a video game; however, they will be doing so much more!
This technology is a teacher's ultimate dream come true with an insane amount of student engagement coupled with the ease of incorporating math and literacy content. My students and I will be so grateful to have access to this amazing technology!
