This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our Title 1 school is located in in Northern Mississippi. We have a wonderful group of family and students! I am a special education teacher for PreK-2nd Grade students. My students have a wide variety of learning characteristics and special education eligibilities with most sensory and/or behavior needs.
Each child enters our school with their own sense of wonder and curiosity, while also having their own individual needs.
My student's needs greatly vary from non-verbal to children high functioning on the Autism Spectrum. Some have language needs- receptive, expressive, and/or articulation, as well as health concerns or disabilities.
Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, our families were given a choice between full-time in-person instruction and full-time virtual learning instruction. All of our teachers, including myself, teach both sets of students throughout the week!
Our classroom and school is a special place where children receive the love, resources, and accommodations needed to learn and grow each day!
My Project
Who's ready to Rock and Read for the Holidays? Do you love to read a book during the holidays?
My students tend to have stronger visual processing and need visual supports to help with memorization of sight words so they can rock and read too!
SnapWords introduces sight words in a visual format where the sight word is imbedded into a drawing to help with word retention. This approach can help my struggling students and allow them to gain confidence in their reading abilities!
Your support will give my students access to the Pre-K noun SnapCards and the 360 count SnapCards Pocket Chart cards. The SnapCard Dictionaries will be added to the reading area and writing area.
The sight word blocks, magnetic letters, sentence flip cards, and sight word sentence cards will supplement the SnapCards during independent time and teacher and para-professional table time!
Why leave off Math? Let's don't! We can Rock and Add around the tree too with the included Right-Brained Addition and Subtraction Games and student books!
