My students need dry erase markers for skill practice on a daily basis. My students need the novels because we have read the first 3 in the series and are working on improving our reading levels.
The students in my 5th grade classroom are eager to learn! They are motivated by a variety of literacy activities and writing tools. These students often come to school with a lower experience with literacy and often don't have the necessary materials to practice what they learn. Our school is in a high poverty area with all students receiving free breakfast and lunch.
My 5th grade students are up for the challenge to improve their reading, writing, and math skills!
They are working hard to be successful at school.
My Project
My students love to use dry erase markers on their marker boards. We use these multiple times a day. We do our math practice on the boards, write sentences and parts of speech in grammar, practice spelling words, and many more activities throughout the day. After all of this use, our markers are dried up, so I am requesting 48 new markers to get us to the end of the year. I am also asking for eight copies of the novel Son by Lois Lowry. This is the 4th novel in the series. My reading group has read the first three novels, and they are impatiently waiting to finish the series!
In our classroom, we believe that learning is not "a spectator sport," so we practice learning by speaking, paper and pencil, reading, and most often using dry erase markers and individual boards.
This project will provide my students many different modes to practice academic skills. Our district is in a financial crunch, and I have had to purchase most of our supplies and novels out of my own pocket. This project will fulfill that need.
