Rocketry: NASA Meets STEM

My students need to build rockets for my math final. They need 5 tech packs and 2 sets of 24 rocket engines. We will use this to cover many things such as linear equations, systems of equations, and slope.

My Students

We are at a STEM school in West Fargo, ND. Our students use many different consumable materials all the time, and this is one of those types of units. For this unit, 82 7th Graders we will work with all disciplines to create a rocket as a final assessment to end the year for our courses.

Our 7th Graders at the STEM School in West Fargo are creative, hands on learners, and our future Engineers.

I am hoping this unit interests our young students in the field of AreoScience. This is the 3rd year the STEM Center has been open in our district, and we pride our selves in creating lessons that engage, and cover content.

My Project

These resources will help the students understand the current issues NASA will be facing with how rocketry is funded in the legislation. This unit will also help students gain a passionate understanding of how math, science, language arts, and social studies are used in the work place. Lastly, this project will be completed with a public launch where all families and local people can attend to see what was learned, and how the knowledge was applied. They will also see which group/country won the challenge.

This project is very important to me since I try to hook kids into understanding why math is so important to learn.

Numbers are around us. Some times all we need to do is wear the right kind of glasses to see it.
