This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are explorers, scientists, thinkers, and engineers! In our Tinkering Lab we learn about the world around us through hands-on lessons and design challenges.
We are expanding our horizons by learning about circuits, robots, coding, 3D printing, and engineering.
Twice a week we engage in exciting standards-driven lessons that will open doors to our future. All of our work is focused on building our skills through Next Generation Science Standards, including physical science, life science, earth and space science, and engineering.
My Project
Our Tinkering Lab isn't just where we explore math, science, technology, and engineering... it's also a place to build our reading muscles!
My scholars are making the critical transition from learning to read to reading to learn, and it takes a lot of high-interest texts to make that happen!
As we learn about different science topics, a classroom library will be an invaluable resource to encourage students to continue learning beyond the classroom. Books help students develop the self-concept of "reader" and "learner," so that they know that learning isn't something that grown ups force on them at school, but instead it's something they take charge of for their future!
