My Project

My 4K classroom is a busy, exciting place filled with young learners who are developing their academic skills, friendships, independence, and ability to manage big feelings. For some of my students, having a quiet, comfortable place to pause and reset can make all the difference in being ready to learn.

I am hoping to add two child-sized rocking chairs to our classroom calm and regulation area.

Gentle rocking can provide calming sensory input and give children a safe, appropriate way to settle their bodies when they are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, tired, or simply in need of a quiet moment.

With two rocking chairs, students will have a cozy space where they can:

1. Take a short break and calm their bodies

2. Practice self-regulation and recognizing their emotions

3. Rock gently while looking at a book or talking with an adult

4. Reset after a frustrating moment and return to learning

5. Develop independence by choosing a strategy that helps them feel ready

At this age, children are still learning that they can have big feelings and still make safe, positive choices. Our classroom calm area helps us practice these skills in a supportive and positive way-not as a punishment or time out, but as a place to regroup.
