This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students attend a sensory impaired Pre-K for visually and hearing impaired students. The students require a different approach to teaching due to their sensory impairment.
My goal as a Pre-K teacher is to encourage my students to increase their language and communication to the best of their ability.
My students may use their voice, sign language or picture symbols to communicate; some are learning to read braille or are using a long cane, but they all have ONE thing in common: they are here to learn!
Donations given to my classroom will impact my students in a variety of educational, play-therapy, and communicative ways!
Working with Pre-K students does NOT mean we can’t begin to introduce them to coding early. Coding has become such a fascination with children recently and is wonderful!
Providing my Pre-K students with a robot that is already programmed will give them incentive to help build the Buzzbot Robot.
My students face a variety of challenges and often take many lessons to grasp the lesson at hand. The Buzzbot will give my Pre-K students the hands-on-building materials to create and watch their final project come to life. The Buzzbot will teach them the importance of following step-by-step sequincing, practicing their fine motor skills, and being introduced to beginner level coding terminology.
The Roomba will allow my students to see an actually robot in action! They will be introduced to new language that they may not come in contact with for years. Being able to see the dirt the Roomba collects will teach my Pre-K students that robots not only can be fun, BUT serve multiple useful purposes.
These materials will introduce my students into the wonderful world of coding much earlier than many of their peers who may begin their coding education years later!
This project will be a fun and exciting project for many Pre-K students to work on and watch progress for multiple years to come!
