This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class consists of 24 gifted fifth graders. This group presents many challenges when implementing instruction, as they have a higher need for enriching and challenging materials. They are also highly motivated, capable of working independently, and even driving their own instruction. Although predominantly Hispanic, my students come from a wide range of different cultural backgrounds within that spectrum.

As a group, we value and support each other.

We lend an ear when someone needs to speak and we speak out when we have something to say. We are a group; we are a team; we are a family.

My Project

What kid doesn't like bugs or robots? Well, our friends at Vincross Robotics have been able to merge both in one outstanding piece of technology sure to fire up the imaginations of my budding engineers and computer scientists.

The addition of the Hexa to our class will help expand my students knowledge of coding and robotics as well as create a truly varied robotics club capable of meeting the needs of all tech level participants, from novice to master.

Appearance wise the Hexa looks like a Frankenstein's mash up between an old Apple computer and a spider. But don't let its looks fool you, there is a lot going on under the hood and that kind of tech is exactly what we need in our class.

Our focus with the Hexa will be it's programming features and STEM applications. From programming it to write using markers, to testing it's ability to traverse complex obstacles, my students will be there putting in the time to make it happen.

My advanced coders will have a field day testing it's many sensors (both infrared and video) as well as measuring it's carrying capacity by designing pull carts for it to tug. That's just scratching the surface however since the robot allows for input and output of audio. Imagine this thing issuing a command to our class room's Echo Dot or Lynx.

We are at the start of a paradigm shift in robotics and these little steps will carry the big dreams of tomorrow.
