Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine having a great idea for a project and being limited by the resources at your disposal. Students in my classes have a desire to create and build and are only limited by the physical resources to make their ideas come to life.

Our school is focused on increasing the amount of students that graduate and move into schools that offer STEAM related courses.

Our students are full of great ideas and dreams which can be easily conveyed with using ROBOTS in the classroom. Our staff has created an environment that pushes these kids to achieve those dreams.

My Project

The material that we are requesting will help support our current robotics elective and our elementary introductory class. We combine art and science when using our robots.

Our brand new STEAM Lab will integrate computer science and engineering so that students can develop and succeed in 3 areas: college and career skills, competitions, and community improvement.

They will use high tech skills to design and create a robotic product that can help their community. Using our new equipment, we hope to compete in at least 2 robotic competitions this year including the elite FIRST Lego League (FLL)and an up and coming local Competition called Rally in the Valley Robotics Challenge and STEAM Expo.

Robotic competitions are the perfect way to put students' 21st-century skills to action in a productive manner.

In FLL, students will design and build a robot to complete a specific mission and will compete against top STEM teams in Los Angeles and beyond. In Rally in the Valley, students will create a robot to compete in various challenges, from SUMO, Follow the Line, Obstacle Course, Team Talk and Space Challenge that will address different skills while modifying their robot for each challenge.

We are requesting Lego Mindstorm Expansion, and Space Challenge accessories. The art supplies help me incorporate art using the bots such as drawing and doing simple tasks with glue. The Lego Space Challenge kit is required for our participation in Los Angeles and at Cal. State University Northridge for the Rally in the Valley Robotics Challenge, in May. Our students are excited to put their computer science and engineering skills to good use as they dream up solutions for today's (and tomorrow's) biggest challenges. Thank you for your support!
