I am very excited to teach math, computer science, Engineering Design, and robotics classes at a STEAM academy this school year. In the STEAM academy, our principle goal is to inspire students to grow intellectually, emotionally and socially, and become leaders of their community.
My students are future scientists, doctors, coders, engineers, artists, mathematicians... and I would like to help them get started on their dream career.
My goal is to provide gifted and high-achieving students with an inspiring, challenging and engaging environment that creates opportunities for research and exploration through project-based learning, as well as emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to curriculum through problem-solving, collaboration and academic excellence.
My Project
Students will use Arduino Micro controllers, Servo Motors, ZJChao Power Supplies, Breadboards, and Straws and will work in groups of 4 to build a sensor that measures the flexion and extension of a finger to learn about tracking the movement of a human hand. Next, they assemble a cardboard glove and attach multiple sensors to enable visualizing how bones work within skeletal system. Finally, students engineer a robotics hand that will be controlled by their sensorized glove to complete a set of tasks.
Robotics hand project integrates life science with robotics, while incorporating crucial 21st century technical skills like data science, software, mechanical and electrical engineering, for an authentic learning experience.
Emphasis is placed on the importance of combining science and technology to reflect the mechanics of the human body.
Students benefit from using Arduino Micro controllers, Servo Motors, and Breadboards by learning the principles of electronics circuits, computer coding and physical computing. They will also get the opportunity to apply what they learn to a real life situation (robotics hand).
