My students need to be 21st Century Challenged with robotics! With today's evolving technology, today's student will need to know coding with the Wonder Workshop Dash Robot and the art of teamwork to be successful.
Preparing students for the future is what a teacher aspires to accomplish. I am a certified blended-online educator without the tools I need for my students' ultimate success. The school I teach at is twelve years old and has outdated, diminishing-crashing computers. I have personally purchased a few iPads, but need to go one step further with introducing Robotics. My class serves students with a range of abilities and/or disabilities. I have students with intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbances, autism spectrum disorders, and specific learning disabilities-along with gifted and average students. Differentiating for learning styles and abilities are best served with technology for today's student.
“Preparation is the key to success.” – Alexander Graham Bell
Students do not even know they are learning when they are engaged with a robotic lesson. They love to read and are engaged when on the few iPads I have. From the moment the students enter the classroom each day, they ask, "When do we get to use the iPads?" My desire is to prepare differentiating online lessons for ALL my students to find their ulitmate success....
My Project
With integrating the use of Robotics with my 4th graders will expose them to future opportunities. Today's learner will need to experience coding and working as a team to be a successful. I know two Wonder Workshop Dash Robots and accessories really isn't enough for thirty-six 4th graders, but it is a beginning toward building future minds.
"One of the most frequent and widely supported calls for change in contemporary education is for newly envisioned curriculum that integrates math, science, and technology content and skills.
Although robotics may at first seem exotic, on closer examination it provides a natural fit with good pedagogy that emphasizes meaningful problem-based learning, integration and application of knowledge, hands-on learning in cooperative groups, and demonstrable mastery of new learning. It attracts students to content domains such as mechanics, electrical circuits, and applied mathematical reasoning that all too often are stumbling blocks for students. Robotics engages students in complex, strategic problem-solving and higher-order thinking—a set of skills that is a high priority for 21st century education. What more, this kind of problem-solving can be introduced in a gradual, self-motivated way, so beginner students can experience satisfying achievements right away and can quickly move on to new challenges in a continuous progression toward greater levels of sophistication. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement."
Perhaps the most compelling reason for a robotics in a 4th grade classroom is that it introduces excitement toward increasing student technology aptitude, teamwork, and skills that are needed for understanding the technology of the future. We hope you can help a few young-minds develop their upmost potiental.
