Robo-Finance: Building Robots, Solving Math, and Learning Financial Literacy

Help me give my students a robotics kit so they can build robot while learning critical financial concepts such as budgeting, cost management, and the economics of robotics in industries."

My Project

This project is designed to engage my native American middle school students (grades 6-8) by combining the worlds of robotics, math, reading, and financial literacy. Using VEX V5 Robotics Kits, students will read and analyze technical manuals, apply math concepts, and engage in financial literacy activities such as budgeting, cost analysis, and understanding the economics behind robotics projects. This integration of multiple subjects will help students see the relevance of STEM in real-world financial decision-making

This project is important because it integrates several critical academic and life skills into a hands-on learning experience that will prepare students for the future.

By using VEX Robotics kits, students will not only learn the technical aspects of building and programming robots, but they will also develop a deeper understanding of financial literacy concepts such as budgeting, cost management, and resource allocation. These skills are essential in today’s world, where technology and financial acumen are increasingly interconnected.

The inclusion of financial literacy in the project adds an important dimension to traditional STEM education. While many students are excited to build robots and engage in hands-on activities, understanding how to manage resources effectively is just as critical in the real world. This project teaches students how to make informed decisions, balance budgets, and prioritize costs—skills that are directly applicable to future careers in engineering, technology, and business. Learning to manage financial constraints while working on a technical project mirrors real-world challenges that engineers and project managers face every day.
