Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The materials requested will enable students in a Title I district to understand the importance of roads in their communities. The materials will enable students to build their own roads through cooperative and collaborative play.

These materials will provide tactile experiences for students to engage in while at inquiry-based learning centers.

The four- and five-year-old students who will receive these materials are in the pre-operational stage of development where most learning occurs through hands on, tactile experiences.

The goals of this project are for my students to identify and describe various roads, why they exist, and how people travel on them. My students come from lower socio-economic backgrounds and few of them travel far from their own homes. These students need opportunities to view and understand that the roads in front of their home go places other than school, church, and the grocery store. Projects like this allow my students to visualize the world outside their homes and outside their classrooms.
