Turn the slide at the beep? Our students need to be visually stimulated not lulled to sleep by ancient technology.

Our middle school is an inner city school.

There are 17 languages spoken there and over 26 countries represented. Many students are English language learners and more than 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Having such a diverse group is wonderful. Students are very supportive of each other and help each other strive to meet their personal best.

My Project

We will soon be starting a multi-disciplined hands-on unit called "Riverworks". As part of this project our students will be studying the ecology of a local river. Students will be field testing the river for four different water quality parameters and submitting their data to a local agency. Though the full description of this unit is too much to place here, there is still a vital piece that's missing. We have (0) visual aids in our science library for ecology and ecosystems. Current research indicates that in addition to hands-on learning, visual learning is the most effective way for students to understand larger concepts, especially English language learners. Please help. We don't even have textbooks and power point can only go so far.

By allowing students the opportunity to fully grasp the concept of ecology, you are already making a difference.

I believe that this DVD set in a addition to our field work will provide a solid foundation for student's concept attainment. There are future ecologists in today's youth. Please provide the technology so they can figure that out for themselves. In a time of enormous habitat destruction, how can we afford not educate our children as best we can.
