My students need LEGO Mindstorm intelligent bricks with Sensors and other LEGO parts.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Yesil's classroom raised $1,008
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are almost all immigrants from Africa and Asia. Some have had limited schooling in their home countries. Many are still struggling to acquire academic English.
Because many of our students come from a traditional culture where men have power over women, our girls struggle to find their own voice in this country.
We feel robotics offers an opportunity to empower these young women.
Despite these many challenges, our male students have achieved a high level in the study of robotics. We anticipate by adding a girls robotics club that they too will achieve at a high level.
My Project
We have seen improved student participation and academic success by students who participate in robotics. However, although our robotics club is open to all students, at this point all members of the club are boys. Because of this, we want to offer a girls robotics club at our school. We hope that by building our girls' confidence in a girls robotics club that eventually girls and boys will be compete on equal footing in a coed robotics club at the high school level.
The requested LEGO Windstorm supplies will allow us to found a separate girls robotics club as well as offering additional support to the present club.
The students who have participated have learned coding, team work, design cycle, and persistence. By donating to our project we will be able to extend these same benefits to our girl students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
