My Students

My class this year is full of students who love science! They love to investigate and get their hands dirty. It is so exciting to watch them get into the scientific process and problem solve. On the other hand; the same students, when given a chance, love to make music and art!

One thing I love about teaching sixth grade students is the way they are poised right on the edge of young adulthood, trying to figure out who they are, and where they are going in life.

Sixth grade students are still in elementary school in our area, they are right on the threshold of moving into secondary education and with that, discovering the path they want to take in life.

My Project

I have been teaching my sixth grade students to read music and ring chimes with the same Malmark Choirchime set for fifteen years now, and some of the chimes have changed tone. Ringing chimes is many of my students first time reading music and playing together as a group. They absolutely love it.

Have you ever heard eleven year old students arguing over who gets to play Tchaikovsky?

Every year, my sixth grade class puts on at least one concert playing the hand chimes. We had to do some creative swapping this year because some of my chimes have lost tonality after being used by over five hundred sixth graders.

This project is to replace four of the chimes in my set that no longer ring true.
