This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our kindergarten campus is a beautiful space filled with with joy and love. For many of our 72 Kinder students, this is their very first experience setting foot inside a school and adjusting to what it means, looks like, and feels like to go to school.
The air is filled with joy and excitement at making new friends and playing outdoors together after two years of the pandemic.
My Project
By having tricycles available for students, we are supporting their gross motor skills, socialization skills, and enhancing mental health by allowing them space to release some stress they may face throughout the day. Our playground currently consists of concrete and one soccer net. This does not support the development of our five year old students.
Kinder students need the opportunity to engage and interact; to feel the joy of childhood as the breeze blows on their face and hair as they pedal on a tricycle.
They will learn to take turns and be patient. They will exercise and grow stronger in their motor skills by burning more energy than they would have by sitting or standing about. They will be ready to learn and to focus when returning to class afterwards because they have had the gift of a fun-filled and exciting recess.
