Riding a Bike and Hosting Bicycle Events

My Project

Students do not know how to ride bikes! I am a teacher and have learned that kids do not know how to ride bikes like it used to be. In fact, one time I did a poll and found that only half of the third grade students knew how to ride a bike.

I teach physical education next year in a middle school in St.

Joseph, MO that is considered a "hard" low-income school. I will take a group of students and teach them how to love physical fitness, to ride bikes, and how to organize an event. I will use the bikes to teach students to ride, give them choices during physical education class, and then use them for an event.

I have hosted multiple 5K events through the years, raising a lot of money for causes. I want to form a group of kids that are interested in the biking and teach them to organize a bike race in St. Joseph. As far as I know, our city does not have one although we have a large amount of trails. I also want to take this group of students and have them organize bike rodeo days at elementary schools for families to be active. With the money raised I hope to buy more bikes and make it a larger event for my students. They will be using a lot of math skills and promotion skills on organizing money, sponsors, and mileage designating a trail.

Riding bikes is a skill people need to sometimes get to work, to socialize in events and clubs, have family fun, and have an exercise that they can use for the rest of their lives for health. With this project they will be like entrepreneurs.
