My school is a Title One school in Washington, D.C. I am a fourth-grade teacher at an elementary school in a large urban community. My students are a diverse group of 70 children whose special needs range from autism, ADHD, emotionally disturbed, to English Language Learners.
My students love to move, explore, and learn!
Most of my students come from a low-income community and lack many resources. However, they are full of energy and curiosity. They are extremely active scholars who benefit from differentiated instruction and movement.
My Project
Our classroom furniture is outdated and I am looking to transform our classroom into a kinesthetic learning environment to best meet the needs of ALL of my students. After reading the research, my teaching practice has shifted. I would love to use both technology and physical exercises to cross-train the brain.
This PEDAL DESK will be a wonderful addition to our classroom.
My fourth graders would be able to move while they learn and stay focused. This desk cycle would offer alternative seating that will benefit my energetic students who learn in different ways. This desk will not only aid reading intervention programs, but it also would reinforce literacy experiences during reading, writing, and Socratic Seminar discussions. My students will be more excited, active, and engaged in their learning. This new pedal desk will allow this learning to happen. I believe this desk will help improve my students reading comprehension skills, writing, math, and science skills, as well as help them develop a love for these curriculum areas.
My students already enjoy using technology and movement that works would be very exciting and beneficial to them! This desk is very needed in my classroom. Your generous donations will help make learning meaningful for all my students. You will help bring great resource to awesome students!
