My Students
My student population is very diverse. Of the students, 56% are English Language Learners and over 70% come from poverty. Most of the students speak a language other than English at home, and many are new to the United States. Our school is an inner city school with minimal funds.
My students are enthusiastic, energetic, curious, and eager to learn.
They bring many traditions to my classroom that enrich the lives of their classmates. They especially enjoy experiences that involve using their imaginations and creative materials.
My Project
My third grade students are voracious readers who love learning about the natural world. They also enjoy comparing the way different authors teach them about the same topic. I'm excited to introduce them to the rich, engaging, and informative texts written by Nicola Davies.
My students will gobble up these luscious nonfiction texts as they learn about the natural world and explore the author's unique writing style.
Since many of my students live in an urban environment, reading about bugs, whales, elephants, and other living creatures will spark their curiosity about life outside of the city. Our classroom will soon be abuzz with excitement, and the students will be better equipped for their summer, for they will undoubtedly look at the natural world through a more informed lens after reading this carefully curated collection.
