My students are thriving young performing artists. They are exploring all aspects of performance from music literacy, character development, solo performance, and ensemble experiences. Performing arts experiences encourage collaboration.
Meeting students with 21st century, real-world learning opportunities is essential to providing relevance in a traditional performance ensemble.
I share this idea with my students often. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit." ~Aristotle.
Our school is in the heart of a community that supports education and knows its value. Students are motivated and engaged. Students are eager to learn; they embrace a challenging work environment and express the desire to be the best in all endeavors.
Student engagement is essential for students of all ages. Student coordination and internalizing rhythm are essential for choral students. The Dalcroze approach of movement and rhythm merging together helps to create a better musician. The concept of cardio and drumming interests me because it gets students up and moving while learning rhythm all at once.
Seeing this program in action will enhance instruction through elements of cardio and drumming.
When this program was at my school briefly last year, students were engaged and enjoyed the experience. Clapping and counting rhythms in the music classroom would only be enhanced by having access to the following equipment to incorporate drum fit on a regular basis.
