I have the JOY to work with Title I students who thrive on experiences that activate and engage their learning! My students come from a low socioeconomic background. However, they come willing to learn with excitement and enthusiasm followed up by hard work.
The goal of ROE is to provide a fair and equal opportunity for disadvantaged students to access high-quality education with the infusion of the ARTS.
Through the ARTS my goal is to teach them to attain proficiency level on state achievement tests while building their self esteem.
Due to my students’ various backgrounds, they often face situations at home that make it difficult, if not impossible, to focus on personal achievement while in school. The lack of a safe and predictable environment can have a serious impact on the overall physical and emotional health of a child as he or she grows up. These and other outside factors affect academic and cognitive performance in school, as well as emotional engagement and in-school behavior.

My Project
Students learn best through multi sensory experiences. Reading involves rhythm, tone and inflection. Building my students’ multi sensory skills will ensure they are successful when reading and recalling what they have read. By applying rhythm and sound to text students will have laser focus on a variety of visual and literary texts. Collaboration with peers and building their critical thinking skills will allow them to represent text through music.
Music allows for students to apply inferencing and recall strategies to improve comprehension of new material.
Building their multi sensory skills will ensure they are successful when reading while using rhythm. The rhythm kits will allow for a tactile, auditory and kinesthetic approach to applying sound to text. These well constructed rhythm kits will help my kids experience long and short rhythms, rhythmic values and relationships with sound and texts that will build their skills in inferencing and recall.
