This project will serve a wide range of students, many of whom have sensory integration needs. Our school is a Title I elementary school with a large population of non-English speakers. At least 80% of our students currently live in poverty, and over 60% are English Language Learners.
Our school has a high population of students who have sensory needs as well as behavioral differences.
In addition to socioeconomic and language challenges, the students I work with have a wide range of special needs. These students will benefit greatly from a safe environment where they can access individualized learning for their specific needs.
My Project
Research shows the importance of children memorizing and knowing nursery rhymes in order to improve their reading success. By providing my students rhyming books, fairy tales and old fashioned nursery rhymes, you are enabling them to develop key knowledge for reading fluency.
Nursery rhymes are important for language knowledge and help improve speech development.
Rhymes help children develop auditory skills such as discriminating between sounds and developing the ear for the music of words.
Bringing back fairy tales and fun with rhyming will give my students the necessary components needed to be successful readers. Fairy tales are of vital importance and my students need the exposure.
