As an experienced educator, I embrace the opportunity to teach students with a variety of learning styles. This means the counseling staff is comfortable assigning students with processing, academic, or social issues to my class. In the 9th and 10th grades, we group everyone together, which means I may have gifted students sitting next to special ed students.
Together, we try to create a Utopian environment where every student is valued and important in our educational mission.
Music has become a daily necessity in our class, for we combat anxiety and stress through music. Unfortunately, cloud services and Wi-Fi don't always work on campus. Therefore, a device that syncs with my Apple products and can contain a few thousand songs would ensure we have access to music, whether or not we have internet access. Also, it is portable so as we plan Utchella in the upcoming months, we can take it with us.
My Project
Walk into the classroom to sounds of acoustic guitar, or Rhapsody in Blue, or piano relaxation tracks. Put down your backpack, take your seat, and relax to music designed to help you think and feel great. Don't worry about the bells - just focus on the tones and your mind will be ready to learn. What will you write in your writer's notebook? Let your ideas flow. Don't worry about editing yet. Don't worry about anything, just listen to the sound of happiness.
Performance anxiety can be reduced through music!
With an ipod, I can play music for my students. Whether it's Mozart or Vivaldi, students love the sonorous tones of the musical masters. And students love sharing their own studying playlists. What a great way to share something everyone loves: the soundtracks of our lives.
