Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in the Bay Area. A majority of my students are first-generation Americans with hardworking immigrant parents. Seventy percent of the students at my school are receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
My students are hardworking and enthusiastic learners.
They are easily motivated and enjoy attending school every day. They are always excited to try and learn new concepts. My students inspire me every day to be a better teacher. I could not ask for a better group of students.
My Project
Every day I go to work and I am amazed and in awe of the progress my Kindergarten students have made in just a short period of time. They are simply remarkable. Many enter the beginning of the school year without knowing how to grip a pencil much less write their name. Now they can write their name and are beginning to read and write simple sentences. I am requesting prizes such as sticky hands, sequin keychains and pull back vehicles to help reward my students for their hard work. My students will start guided reading soon. I would like to motivate my students to read by using a book chart. Students will get to earn a prize for every five books they read.
Every week, students are also given raffle tickets when they are caught being safe, responsible and respectful.
Students are encouraged to get as many tickets as possible. On Fridays, I pick five tickets, and these students get to choose a prize from the prize box. Your donation will help acknowledge and celebrate all of their hard work throughout the school year.
