Some of the stickers include Halloween and Thanksgiving sheets. For Halloween, the students used the sticker sheets of pumpkins and fall related items to decorate a paper bag to put their treats in. Peeling the stickers helped students strength their fine motor skills. The students had a great time decorating their bags. Another bag they decorated was for Thanksgiving. We read the story A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and recreated his feast with friends. The students took the left over snacks home in their decorated bag. The students look forward to using the Christmas and other seasonal stickers. We use 'Feed the Animals' and 'Squeeze and Scoop Ice Cream' manipulative during student choice time. Students have been practicing squeezing, scooping, sorting , and pretend play; skills that help build hand strength and coordination. \r\n\r\nOne of my favorite part is watching them name the animals and pretending they were taking care of their pets. Another group of students suggested having an ice cream shop and serving their friends ice cream. This has sparked team work, language, and joy. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials they were excited. They immediately gathered to ask questions, exploring the pieces, and started sharing how they could use them.\r\n\r\nAs for the next steps we will continue to use these for fine motor development and early math skills. Quite honestly, it was not the most riveting lesson on the punctuation of titles, but the students started spontaneously singing the video related to the learning. Learning is so much more effective and fun when hooked with a beat and told by an hip-hop artist.
