Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low-income families in Detroit, MI. They are sweet, energetic, and eager to learn! These students come from diverse backgrounds. Some are bilingual or learning English as a second language, and they have various needs.
My school is a positive and energetic learning community with students who love school.
My students love to learn and get excited about coming to school. I want to provide all of my students with materials that are best suited for their needs.
Our public school bends over backward to help our students as much as possible, but budget cuts have severely cut funding. I can't afford to give them everything they need.
My Project
Students are driven by positive reinforcement. This project is requesting gift cards to be given to students that are demonstrating exemplary behavior. It's also important for students to see others being praised for doing the right thing. This helps create role models.
Each week, I select a Star Student of the Week.
This student must follow classroom expectations and complete all their assignments for the week. I am always looking for fun ways to recognize the Star Student. I allow the Star Student to choose an activity on Friday afternoon to create a stronger community.
This project would allow me to also reward the students with a $10 gift card. I am sure that this will foster more engagement and drive my students to be the best they can be!
