Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fifth grade students are learning a set of grammar skills from the Patterns of Power instruction book. Each week, they learn a new grammar skill, also known as a "big idea", which involves capitalization, correct punctuation placement, constructing compound/complex sentence, etc. To make sure that they are applying the skills they learn in writing class into other academic spaces, I have developed a reward system where students check their writing samples, see if they have applied the grammar rule correctly, and show me their end results. If they meet all requirements, they get a cute prize for their hard work.

The transferring of grammar skills and knowledge in other academic spaces is crucial for the language development on English learners and students with learning disabilities.

Grammar is already difficult as it is, therefore I would like to make this learning opoprunitiy as fun and engaging as possible through these adorable prizes.
