Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I teach at a Title I, low income school where our students have a huge range of needs. I provide resource services for special education students that are primarily placed in a regular education class. My students have a wide range of disabilities from ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Mild Mental Disabilities, specific learning disabilities, behavior disorders as well as several others.

Better behaved students lead to an increase in learning for the entire classroom.

The majority of my students have disabilities and struggle to regulate their emotions. Most of my students are on some type of daily point sheet where they can earn daily and sometimes hourly incentives to help encourage good behavior. I have many students that are motivated by toys, fidgets and snacks. It is amazing how hard some students will work for something as simple as a bag of chips or a small toy. These items can get costly for most teachers as we are not allotted classroom funds for these items. Please help me, help my students be their best behaved selves they can be!
