I am a speech-language pathologist who currently provides direct services to over 60 students in two inner-city schools. I am also the school's Unified Sports team coach. Three of my classrooms are self-contained special education programs for students with special learning needs. Some of my students have a variety of disabilities including autism, intellectual delays, fluency disorders, and a wide variety of speech and language disorders that impact their success in school. All my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
I work with a special group of students with a wide range of disabilities. In order to keep their attention high and help them stay motivated and fully engage in classroom and therapy lessons, tangible reinforcements are often needed and have a positive effect on their learning.
My project is requesting a variety of mini vending machine toys which will be used to refill my student reward vending machine which positively motivates my students to work hard in and out of the classroom and during their therapy sessions.
The toy vending machine I received this year is a huge hit with my students. They work very hard to earn coins to trade in for a mystery reward. Right now we are out of rewards. This project will allow me to refill the vending machine and continue to work on positive student behavior, money skills as the kids work hard to earn coins, as well as keep my students focused during their speech and language lessons.
