My Students

I teach middle school and I teach math, not always the best combination. Most of my students come to me hating school, or hating math in specific, which is often transferred onto me. I work hard at changing that mindset. Building a caring relationship is key for me.

A high percentage of my students have an unfortunate home situation which I identify with.

Being raised in a similar situation lets me reach some of the most difficult. I make sure they know I am here for them, not only for math problems but also life problems. Having someone who cares makes all the difference

My Project

With the heat press, vinyl, and t shirts, I can reward students with school logo apparel. I already have a Cricut maker, so in combination with the heat press, I can make school shirts (and personalize them) for a lower cost than ordering them.

Students will be proud of their hard work and can show it off when they wear their personalized t shirt.

Students get excited when they get rewarded, and that excitement motivates them to work harder. Treats and stickers are common rewards that get the students going, but are quickly gone. Lower income students usually can not afford the school t shirts, but this would give them a way to earn one.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
