HELP!! I'm getting red flagged! My students are no longer racing to their reading stations. They are letting me know that my overused, stale activities need to head to the pits. Please help me "rev up" my reading stations!!
My classroom is a "Checkered Flag Classroom" where all students have the opportunity to share their individual victories.
The twenty-one fifth graders make up an ethnically and economically diverse group. They attend a public elementary school that is labeled as impoverished. The learning levels of my students vary greatly, as well as their backgrounds and life experiences.
My Project
Colorful prefixes and suffixes puzzles, a game where multiple meaning words literally POP out of the dispenser, and similes that the students can actually see... These are all examples of activities I am requesting for my students. At least three days a week, my students travel around the room to engage in twenty minute sessions at literacy work stations. These stations need to be updated often to correlate with the current skills students are learning. The stations also need to be changed periodically to help hold the interest of the students. The materials I am requesting will help my students learn the required standards while keeping learning interesting and fun.
For a student to be successful in school and society, he or she must be able to read and write.
My job is to help make literacy interesting and fun and to establish my students as successful readers and writers. This is not always an easy task, as you can imagine. Having fun and exciting materials for my daily literacy work stations will ensure that my students are always engaged and learning during their twenty minutes of work time.
